Gentleman's Guide to Beating Your Wife

Gentleman's Guide to Beating Your Wife

MYTH No 1: HIP HOP OPPRESSES WOMEN!
In the media, Hip Hop has been getting a bad rap for sending and perpetuating the
messages of nihilism, glorifying violence, promotes criminality, preach defeatism, sexism and misogyny in mainstream American culture. As these ideas and thoughts continue to cultivate in mainstream hip-hop, narrow-mindedness floods the brains of listeners of all races. As this new "lifestyle" gains more popularity, the influence on society becomes apparent. Women are no longer seen as human beings, but sex objects, more or less fashion accessories. These feelings and ideas then force themselves into conventional thinking. Directly or indirectly, listeners are supporting an environment that consents to sexism.

This has become a valid debate in America, because in a civil society we can't afford BAD IDEAS to rewind the time of progress. Martin Luther King said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." With this in mind, I think it is necessary to humor the idea that Hip Hop could possibly degrade and oppress women. Is this a valid argument?

CULTURE IN DECLINE?
If it was concluded that HIP HOP CULTURE did in fact degrades women, there seems to be mounting evidence to support this claim, wouldn't that worth talking discussing openly? I bring this up, because the other day a liberal friend of mine told me we need respect other peoples different cultures and belief. This sounds like a good theory, but does this apply to even BAD IDEAS? Does it matter even what that idea is, or in better words, Are all ideas to be judge equally? Do we need to respect and tolerate on the account its different from our own? FUCK NO, this make no sense to logic. Ideas need to weighed with logic & reason, and judge & respected accordingly.

So with that in mind, If the accusation of Hip Hop Culture where deemed to be true, one might infer that proliferation of music culture that degrades and objectify half of the population to be a very BAD IDEA. Right?

ISLAM: RELIGION OF PEACE
I bring this all up to illustrate my next point , Does Islam Oppress Women, and can this too be openly and rationally debated? If your turn on CNN, the answer to this question that you will find by most moderate Muslims is NO! "That Islam is a religion of peace. The majority of most Muslims are peace, loving citizens who want to promote peace through education and dialogs. Islam is a faith who very name means PEACE. Its a Faith that demands peace and compassion of all people. It's sad that such a faith dedicate to preserving PEACE and equality has become known and to be associated with murderous, suicidal terrorist who hijacked and perverted the teachings of an entire religion."

Generalizing and stereotyping a whole group of people based on the the isolated action of few isn't a very good idea. So let's for the sake of argument, that Islam is more or less a religion of peace, and it's has been hijacked by fundamentalist. Let us then go back to the original question, Does Islam Oppress Women? What does the fundamental tenants of Islam have to say about the matter?

So, if you want to know if Islam oppress women, why not ask a Muslim Woman? Here is what I found what a REAL MUSLIM WOMEN SAYS about the matter....she keeps it REAL

MYTH No.1: ISLAM OPPRESSES WOMEN!

This is false!
Islam views women as full and equal partners to men, so women's rights are guaranteed by Islam. Most of the ill-treatment that women receive in the Muslim world is based on local culture and traditions, without any basis in the faith of Islam. In fact, practices such as forced marriage, spousal abuse, and restricted movement directly contradict Islamic law governing family behavior and personal freedom.

Allah says:
"O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the woman of the believers to bring down over themselves (part) of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known (as free respectable women) and not be abused. And ever is Allaah Forgiving and Merciful." [Quran 33:59] This verse shows that Islam makes wearing a Hijaab necessary. Hijaab is the word used for covering, not only the head scarves (as some people may think) but also wearing loose clothes that are not too bright.

Case close! But wait...why does Islam even get the reputation of oppressing women in the first place. It seem you didn't really address question. What the hell does wearing hiijab have to do with making you free and equal? Men don't have to wear a hiijab to be deem respectable, so by your own rationale , this seem to against your argument. Ok, forget the hiijab. What about the Quran itself...take this passage that seem blatantly sexist against women?
The Koran says the Husband should first verbally admonish her, next ground her to the bedroom like a child, and finally when all else fails, to beat her.

Quran 4: 35. Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whom part you fear disloyalty and ill conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance) for Allah is Most High, Great (above you all).

So, isn't it safe to say that Quran justify beating women, period? With that same point wouldn't it be safe to say condoning the beating your wife somewhat backwards, and open the door to the larger question of Islam is oppressive to women? How can you rationalizes that.....it's right there in there holiest of holiest of books. HOW DO YOU JUSTIFY THIS?

INTELLIGENT, ORTHODOX MUSLIM DUDE on Beating Your Wife.

Verdict:Some times it's necessary to beat the fear of GOD back into a wicked woman....life is not possible without it doing this, beside ALLAH commands us to do it, and ALLAH's word is infallible. Ignore the fact that more and more through the passage of time Humankind tend to be continuously raising it's conscious, trying to respect people individual and civil liberties., and spread liberty and justice for all. Realize that the Infallible God, despite if we like it or not, is more or less a proud chauvinist.

INTELLIGENT, MODERATE MUSLIM on Beating Your Wife.

Verdict:
You're not suppose to Beat your wife for just ANY REASON. There are certain rules and regulations you must abide by to beating your wife. You must beat your wife to keep peace and maintain stability of your family. Men have a greater moral compass than women, and sometimes it necessary to bust your wife in the lip to point her in the right direction.

Conclusion: Maybe Muslim women like this role, where they must remain obedient to their male counter parts. And the rule of the Oppressive Taliban in Afghanistan was probably just an isolated and a perversion of ISLAM. That was the exception, not the RULE! The Qur'an also teaches that men can have four wives (Quran 4:3) while women can only have one husband, women can only inherit half of what men inherit (Quran 4:176) and other principles that lead you to think Islam views women as inferior to men...but maybe this is just one of many bit lost in translation about ISLAM. Maybe I'm completely wrong, and certainly guilty of not respecting people's beliefs, despite how flawed and inconsistent they might be when held up to the light of logic and reason. This is so rude, SHAME ON ME!

Bill Cosby Doesn't Care About Black People

I was watching Chapelle Show: THE LOST EPISODE,in particular the pixie sketch, where Dave portrays a bunch of racial pixies trying to get people to embrace stereotypes. Dave Chapelle didn't want the show aired, and after seeing I can definitely see why. Though entertaining and funny, I can see how this kind of thing could be reinforcing stereotypes. Watching Chapelle Show has DEFINITELY opened my eyes and widen my library of stereotypes, for the worst. Stereotypes and racism is definitely learned and perpetuated through the culture. I respect Dave Chapelle for staying true to himself and trying to be a symbol of positivity in the Black community. There are allot of people who say Dave is tripping for passing up 50 million dollars to take the moral high road, but I guess these are the same people who say Bill Cosby is tripping for dissing Hip Hop Culture, which itself is another destructive force in the Black Community.

But there are some who feels there is absolutely no problem in entertainment that represents these negative images for the sake of entertainment. But once is satire and a joke becomes accepted truth. Like if you look at typical stand up Black comedians they will all tell the same jokes. For example, the stereotype that Black people have bad credit. Growing up I would always hear it, and never really understood what it really meant, and never really developed an education and respect for credit. But as I got older I later discovered that CREDIT is one the most important things in our society that should be respected! It's deciding factor in buying a house, a car, student loans. opening a business. GOOD CREDIT = POWER. But growing up watching Black Entertainment, you'd think that being black with bad credit was an inevitable fate that colored are doom too. This is not true. But it's an accepted stereotypical, truism in Black Culture perpetuated through Black Entertainment.

If anyone speaks about this, or turns down a 50 million dollar contract are shunned and accused of being a uppity negro. There is a double standard for educated blacks. No one cares if a ignorant rapper degrades African Americans on their album by calling them a nigger and threatening them with violence. Some of these rappers are putting in more work than the Klan when it comes to promoting negativity and coondom of Blacks, but no one checks them. The youth better take heed to Dr.Cosby's words There are issues we face that can not be addressed in the scope of hip-hop but allot of blacks won't listen to anything else!

Since when did Hip Hop Culture become the embodiment of blackness? If hip-hop died tomorrow, most blacks would not know how to act because they don't know anywhere else to get their rules of blackness from. Hip-hop has done great things, but why do we (black people) expected hip-hop to be our teacher, or the focal point of our Identity? I desperately do want to see change in the black community. I think hip-hop can help. I don't think hip-hop must bring it. I'm comfortable exploring other things because my "blackness" ain't molded or taught to me by hip-hop.
